SantoRad Fluids

SantoRad™’s Polyphenyl Ethers (PPEs) are notably resistant to ionizing radiation, making them ideal for high-temperature, radiation-resistant fluids. Our range of PPE-based lubricants is specifically designed for machinery operating in environments with intense, short-wavelength ionizing radiation. Common lubricants tend to degrade under such conditions, as ionizing radiation—like gamma rays, x-rays, and charged subatomic particles -breaking the carbon-hydrogen bonds, forming structurally different, less effective molecules with increased viscosity. In contrast, polyphenyl ether-based lubricants retain their structural integrity even when exposed to ionizing radiation levels as high as 10^11 ergs/gram. This resilience prevents them from turning into viscous gels, a common issue with hydrocarbon-based lubricants.

Features at a Glance

Consequently, PPE-based lubricants are extensively employed in critical and demanding environments, including nuclear power plants, space satellites, nuclear submarines, food sterilization equipment, radiation chemistry laboratories, and medical imaging systems. Our PPE-based greases are particularly suited to applications that demand both thermal and ionizing radiation resistance, where liquid lubricants are unsuitable due to their high fluidity and potential contamination risks. We are proud to offer a comprehensive range of products within this class.
